Through Maasailand, Mike Hacker's Journey
In 1883 the Royal Geographical Society commissioned Joseph Thomson, a young Scottish geologist, to explore the East African region between the coast and the shores of the great Lake Victoria. His journey took him through the dreaded land of the Maasai. He became the first European to make the journey and return to tell his tale.
Photographer Mike Hacker has recently completed his own 2500 mile journey, following Joseph Thomson’s footsteps through Maasailand.
From a collection of 14,000 photographs taken during the expedition, a selection of theses will form a touring exhibition throughout the USA and then London and in addition, will illustrate Mike’s first Book. With Cameraman Renaud Dugent, between them they also shot over 113 hours of High Definition video.
Mike’s Film, “Africa’s Greatest Explorer” was premiered at the Royal Geographical Society on the 16th of October 2007 and is currently being screened on The History Channel. View the Trailer
