Through Maasailand, Mike Hacker's Journey
In 1883 the Royal Geographical Society commissioned Joseph Thomson, a young Scottish geologist, to explore the East African region between the coast and the shores of the great Lake Victoria. His journey took him through the dreaded land of the Maasai. He became the first European to make the journey and return to tell his tale.
Photographer Mike Hacker has just completed his 2500 mile journey, following Joseph Thomson’s footsteps through Maasailand.
He took over 14,000 photographs during his journey from which an exhibition and an illustrative book will be published. Mike and his Cameraman, Renaud Duguent shot 113 hours of High Definition video footage along the way.
Mike’s Film, “Africa’s Greatest Explorer” was premiered at the Royal Geographical Society on the 16th of October 2007and then screened on The History Channel on the 21st of October at 8pm.
